Welcome to my workshop. I am Sébastien Rieu, a French caricature artist working from a studio in the heart of Bordeaux, in the southwest of France. For more than twenty-five years I have been carrying on the tradition of French satirical drawing — the old spirit of Montmartre, where a stranger sat down on a folding stool and stood up ten minutes later holding his own face.
I have been featured on France 3 national television, exhibited paintings across Europe, and drawn just about everyone: rock stars, American truckers, newlyweds, grandparents, and a remarkable number of dogs.
The style is easy to recognise — bold lines, expressive faces, a touch of wit. No AI. No templates. No shortcuts.

The internet is now flooded with pictures a machine produced in eleven seconds — a photo run through a filter, a prompt typed into a box, a face that belongs to nobody. My approach is the opposite of that.
I am a craftsman of the pencil. Every caricature and every portrait you order is drawn entirely by hand: real India ink, real watercolour, real paper that buckles when the wash is too wet. It takes hours, sometimes days.
That is also why you always see a sketch before I go to ink. Wrong ear, wrong smile, wrong hat — you tell me, and I change it. Nobody has ever received a drawing from me they had not already approved.
